Decarbonizing Our Energy Future: Insights from the 7th Grid Service Market Symposium
The recent 7th Grid Service Market Symposium (GSM), held on July 1-2, 2024, in Lucerne, Switzerland, gathered 69 experts from 16 European countries to explore the challenges and opportunities of the transition to decarbonized energy sources. Professionals from academia, industry, and policy organizations came together to discuss the latest developments in this field, including advanced technologies for grid flexibility, market developments, regulations, international collaborations, and successful case studies. We are pleased to underline that the 24/7 ZEN project was also represented by one of its partners, HSLU.
Keynote speakers addressed pressing issues such as the flexibility gap and the critical need for robust transmission infrastructure, while thorough discussions on market harmonization in Europe and international projects were also facilitated.
A highlight of the symposium was the special session, “International Projects for the Energy Transition Co-creating the Future,” sponsored by the 24/7 ZEN project, where eight innovative research projects were presented, each contributing to enhancing flexibility in the European electricity grid. The session offered a great opportunity for exchange and development of potential synergies.
As we navigate this landscape, collaboration and knowledge-sharing will be vital in creating a more resilient energy system. Let’s embrace these opportunities and work together towards a sustainable future.
